About the Choir

Located on the Wirral, Sing The Musicals Choir offers a welcoming space for friendships to flourish and confidence to blossom.

With an inclusive, warm, and supportive atmosphere, we make each session a joyful experience. Singing brings wonderful health benefits, and our goal is to leave you with a smile on your face and a spring in your step every time you join us.

The choir is led by Lucy Holmes, a professional vocal coach, choir leader, Disney employee, and musical theatre performer. With production support from Jon Ranger, a musical director with experience on both the West End and Broadway, members will get an authentic taste of performing under the stage lights.

Through weekly rehearsals, members have the opportunity to sing a diverse range of songs—from Broadway classics like Les Misérables and Wicked to contemporary favourites like Dear Evan Hansen and Rent. Our repertoire also includes memorable pieces from popular movie musicals and beloved Disney hits, ensuring there’s something for everyone to enjoy.

Rehearsals

The choir meets for rehearsals every Wednesday or Thursday from 7:30 to 9:00 p.m. at The Bolton Room, located in The Bridge Inn on Bolton Road, Port Sunlight, Wirral (CH62 4UQ). This distinctive Grade II listed venue in Port Sunlight offers a blend of Victorian charm and excellent acoustics.

Each 90-minute, fun-filled singing session costs £6, and the choir meets for 42 weeks each year, following the Wirral school holiday schedule. We also take a three-week break during the summer holidays.

FAQs

Not at all – there’s no audition process, and previous singing experience isn’t required to join Sing the Musicals Choir. We’re all about having fun while immersing ourselves in the vibrant world of Musical Theatre!

Do not worry as there’s no need for members to be able to read music. All members receive lyric sheets and/or scores and songs are taught in a clear, approachable way that matches the choir’s pace. The arrangements are expertly crafted by Jon Ranger, a professional Musical Director with experience on both the West End and Broadway.

Lucy Holmes is a professional singer and pianist with a BA Hons in Music from The University of Leeds and an MA in Acting Musical Theatre from The Central School of Speech and Drama in London. She worked as a Musical Theatre Performer in London, UK Tours and onboard Cruise Lines. She worked for Disney Cruise Line in 2014 which was the highlight of her career. She has spent the last 10 years working as a Vocal Coach and Choir Leader and is so excited to be the proud owner of Sing The Musicals Choir.

Rehearsals are held every Wednesday or Thursday. Doors open at 7:15 pm, giving members a chance to socialize, settle in, and prepare before the session officially starts. While the rehearsal itself begins at 7:30 pm, arriving by 7:15 pm allows you to find a comfy seat, catch up with fellow choir members, and get ready for a productive rehearsal. We will start each session with some fun vocal warm ups which will then lead onto learning some amazing show tunes for the rest of the session.

All your music will be provided so just bring a drink, a pencil for scribbles and your enthusiasm to learn.

No, your taster session is completely free so you can come along and get a feel for the choir. Once you are hooked, we’ll send you an email with information on how to become a choir member.

Once the choir is established and we have all built up some experience and confidence, we would love to perform locally for the public, culminating in a concert style performance at the end of the year. Don’t worry though, if you just want to sing with us every week at rehearsals, without taking part in the performances, that’s absolutely fine. The performances will be a lovely opportunity for us to showcase to the public all the amazing songs we have been perfecting during our weekly rehearsals.

We sing all the favourites from the stage and screen. We combine classics such as The Sound of Music, The Wizard of Oz and Mary Poppins with the more modern musicals such as Hamilton, We Will Rock You and Prom. We also explore movie musicals such as The Greatest Showman, Mamma Mia and La La Land. And, of course we include some of the world famous Disney tunes in our repertoire.
